Teaching with Voice Thread

Voice Thread

A VoiceThread is a multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments. This is done by using voice (with a mic or telephone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). A person can share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues, and alternatively, they are able to record comments too on the slides. You can register without paying anything.

Linguistic Skills: Listening and Speaking

Activities

#1. The teacher creates a VoiceThread presentation, each slide has a picture. The teacher records an audio in which he/she says three different sentences but only one sentence fits with the image. Students listen to the three options and should say which of the three sentences fits with the picture. This activity is used in the classroom.
#2. The teacher asks students to make a conversation in pairs. They should record an audio or video carrying out the conversation. Students must use VoiceThread to develop this activity. Then, as a homework students should make comments on their classmates’ presentations. Consider then making a video and them uploading in so that classmates can duscuss about it
#3. Students should choose a picture and react to it. By using VoiceThread, students will present the picture and record themselves (just audio). They might provide guesses, ideas, or explanations about the picture. They should mark the clues in the pictures while expressing their comments about the picture. This is an activity for homework.

Tips for EFL teachers when using Voice Thread
  •  When recording the audios or videos be sure to be in illuminated and silent place.
  •  Try to use an appropriate tone of voice
  •  Use very clear images.

Voice Thread is an innovative way to primarily implement listening and speaking skills. It gives students the opportunity to listen to their classmates and educators performance. They can also react to the VoiceThread presentations by writing some comments. They are able to record themselves. VoiceThread enables students to learn while creating.
